Our History

Makefast Ltd. is established in Hampshire close to the River Hamble.

One of its first products was a ring and turnover for sailmakers.   This could be pressed where previously rings were hand sewn into a sail.    A range of stainless steel canopy fittings was also developed which replaced gun metal fittings, the only alternative at that time.

After two years the company had developed buckles and rings for the lifejacket market which has developed into a comprehensive range for all safety products.

Makefast moved to Mid Wales where it has expanded and become a modern manufacturing company now also making sunroofs, awnings, carbon poles etc. for power boats.  At the same time continuing to design and manufacture safety and canopy products.

In conjunction with Messieurs Jean Pierre and Jacque Kerzhero of Alfamar,  TA France SARL is set up to promote products in France.    TA France now sell a large range of products for the marine industry, sailmakers and canopy makers, including Makefast products.

Makefast Italia SRL opens, particularly to sell sunroofs and awnings to the Italian marine industry.

Custom Marine Developments Ltd. Is inaugurated, separating the one off designs and development from Makefast Ltd.    CMD specialises in the design and manufacture of products requested by their customers from the yacht and superyacht industries, whilst also continuing to expand their range of anchor handlers, bathing platforms etc.

Makefast USA LLC is opened in Maryland.    In addition to selling and servicing sunroofs and awnings to our US customers, they will promote all of the Makefast range of products.
